What you may notice
Scale or white spotting can be a reason to investigate hardness. Appearance alone does not establish a concentration or the correct equipment size.
Ask for a usable number
Record hardness in grains per gallon (gpg), or keep the laboratory’s original units. Share the result, where the sample was taken, and whether treatment was bypassed.
A better buying question
Ask for the proposed system’s usable capacity, operating settings, peak-flow suitability, maintenance needs and written warranty. Avoid choosing only by a large advertised grain number.
